Sea Buckthorn, or Hippophae rhamnoides, is a deciduous shrub that bears bright orange berries and seeds high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids, and more. Due to its rich levels of carotenoids and the rare Omega 7 fatty acid, Sea Buckthorn has gained an extraordinary reputation for use against oxidative stress, particularly from UV exposure. SOD, or superoxide dismutase, is an enzyme responsible for antioxidant defense that exists within all living cells. However, Sea Buckthorn berries contain more than 4 times the amount of SOD than another remarkably antioxidant plant: Ginseng.
Also on Sea Buckthorn’s lengthy list of nutrients are:
This ingredient can be used for all skin types, but is especially recommended for improving the look of fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, and scarring. Sea Buckthorn oil is extremely moisturizing, improving the skin’s texture and tone, as well as protecting against chapping, dryness, and cracked skin conditions. It quickly soothes irritation, protecting against skin congestion and discomfort. With its abundant nutritional and esthetic benefits to match, Sea Buckthorn is an obvious ally for your every day healthy skin routine.
After Dinner Delight
Think of this dessert beverage as an herbal hot chocolate: something sweet, soothing, and satisfying all in one cup! Peppermint cools and calms digestion, while Licorice Root relaxes and supports the adrenals. And why not enjoy the comforts of a little chocolate at the same time? Feel free to experiment with this recipe according to your taste:
In a saucepan, bring water to a boil, add Licorice Root herb, then reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Strain out herb from liquid and pour into cup over fresh Peppermint and Cacao nibs/powder. Let steep for about 10 minutes, then strain out extra herb and enjoy.
You can drink this as is or add your milk of choice (hemp, rice, and coconut milks are lovely) and some honey if a sweeter flavor is desired (Licorice is naturally sweet, so be sure to taste it first!).
Immune Boosting Lemon & Ginger Tea
Try this fresh and invigorating tea the next time you're feeling under the weather. It's quick, easy, and uses many common - but highly medicinal - kitchen ingredients. Lemon is cleansing and detoxifying to our system, making it a great go-to ingredient during the first signs of illness. Ginger aids digestion and circulation, warming our bodies and settling upset stomachs. Cayenne is warming as well, but also synergizes any formula that it is in, carrying it into our systems quicker. Here's the recipe:
In a saucepan, bring water to a boil, add fresh ginger, then reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Strain out ginger and add freshly squeezed Lemon juice and Honey to taste. Top off with a pinch of Cayenne Pepper, mix and enjoy.

Note: Darker colored essential oils could potentially stain light fabrics so be mindful of what you are blending. This recipe is not to be used directly on the face or body.

Get A Leg Up On Luxury Foot Care
Our feet are an integral part of our well-being, as many discomforts like chronic back pain can be rooted in poor foot health. The feet can also be indictors of many other complications in the body, so it is important to not leave them hanging when considering your health and personal care routine. Changes in your feet can often signal issues like alignment problems, nutritional deficiencies, and even serious diseases like diabetes. Getting to know your feet can help keep you more connected to your body and less likely to overlook any abnormalities that may arise. A great way to do this is with massage. Since your feet are the furthest away from your heart, circulation to that area is much more work, and any stagnation within the body can become quickly problematic. This is why massage and careful exercise are so important for stimulating circulation and maintaining the health of your lower extremities.
One of our favorite go-to reflexology exercises is a wonderful trick for those who suffer from headaches or migraines. Simply apply a firm rolling squeeze to the fleshy part of your big toe for 10 seconds, alternating 10 seconds on and 10 seconds off. You can also massage from the the bottom of your big toe to the area between your big and second toe, again with firm rolling circular motions. Not only will this release pressure and sooth pain, but it will also stimulate blood flow to your feet and toes. Try it for yourself!
To learn more about reflexology, a great source is Mildred Carter, one of our favorite experts on the subject. She has several books available, including the popular Body Reflexology: Healing At Your Fingertips. If you are interested in taking classes, the American Reflexology Certification Board can help you locate a quality educational institute near you.
